THE TRAVELING PHOTOGRAPHER is a series of half-hour programs presenting unique insights into otherwise well-traveled destinations. THE TRAVELING PHOTOGRAPHER brings to travelers of every age the excitement of getting inside a place, even when their time spent there is limited. And who would know where these unusual opportunities might be hiding? A world-class photographer who spends days at a time in one place, getting to know the people and the location so that he might record a single memorable image, capturing its spirit on film.

Our host is National Geographic Traveler photographer and columnist, Bob Krist.

In Tuscany

In addition to authoring several books including SPIRIT OF PLACE: The Art of the Traveling Photographer, Bob was chosen by Under the Tuscan Sun author Frances Mayes to be the exclusive photographer for her new best-selling coffee table book, In Tuscany.

Bob and Ranger Bill

THE TRAVELING PHOTOGRAPHER distinguishes itself from other travel shows in that it is driven by photography. While location is still the ultimate star of the program, we’re going to take a few moments from time to time to show you how to capture "the spirit of place" on film (or your digital memory stick). Whether it’s finding that special guide in Hawaii who includes home-made sandwiches and jokes as he takes you to the summit of Mauna Kea; spending time discussing antiques with the owner of a centuries-old Victorian B&B in Cape May; or visiting Tuscany, touring the unspoiled little towns that are not overrun with tourists, Bob is there to guide you with a sense of humor and a sense of composition. In addition, as Bob shares his globetrotting experiences of the last 25 years, you gain insight into those special people and places that make even the most familiar destinations worth a closer look.
