When we worked with Robert Redford on a documentary film for the Smithsonian Institution, we knew we had him for one day, and one day only. The location was a very large greenhouse. Since there were multiple setups with dollies and without, we had two equipment packages with enough grips to stay one setup ahead of what we were shooting. This allowed us to go from setup to setup without delay.
We found ourselves in the living room of Jane Fonda, back when she was married to Tom Hayden. We were taping a feature on Tom's participation in an adult baseball league and we were hoping for an interview with her as
well. She came home, surprised and not at all happy to see a video crew in her living room inasmuch as she was expecting company that evening. As we were clearing out, Paul approached her with a letter from his very
young son who liked her workout tapes. She put down the Windex, read the note, and graciously invited us back the next week to interview her.
On the political front, we've worked with President Jimmy Carter and Dr. Henry Kissinger. Although their political views differ widely, we found them both to be gracious and attentive to the tasks at hand - whether it was sitting for an interview or plowing through the editing process.
